Benadryl Side Effects

What is Benadryl used for?
Benadryl is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergy, hay fever and the common cold. These symptoms include rash, itching, watery eyes, itchy eyes/nose/throat, cough, runny nose and sneezing. It is also used to suppress coughs, to treat motion sickness, to induce sleep, and to treat mild forms of Parkinson's disease.

Before taking Benadryl

You should not take warfarin if you are allergic to it.
Tell your doctor if you are have Glaucoma.
Tell your doctor if you are have breathing problems, such as Emphysema or Chronic Bronchitis.
Tell your doctor if you are have trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland.
Tell your doctor if you are taking sedatives or tranquilizers.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Benadryl side effects:

Drowsiness
Weakness
Dizziness
Headache
Feeling tired
Dry mouth or nose
Low blood pressure
Difficulty in breathing
Blurred vision
Ringing in the ears
Hives
Increased intestinal peristalsis
Spasm
Increased anxiety
Agitation
Nausea
Diarrhea
Constipation
Vomiting
Bleeding from stomach ulcers
Hallucinations
Nightmares
Insomnia

What other information should I know?
Sedatives, tranquilizers and alcohol may increase drowsiness when taken in combination with Benadryl. Be careful when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery while taking Benadryl.
Try not to stand up sharply but gradually to avoid possible dizziness.
