Advil Side Effects

What is Advil used for?
Advil is used to reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation caused by many conditions such as headache, toothache, back pain, arthritis, menstrual cramps, or minor injury. Advil (ibuprofen) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Before taking Advil

Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to take this medication if you have:
heart disease, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure
a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding
heart disease
kidney disease
asthma

Advil side effects:

Headache (in up to 7%)
Fever (in up to 10%)
Weakness (0.5% to 2%)
Chest pain (0.5% to 2%)
Blurred vision
Muscle weakness
Shortness of breath (in up to 1%)
Nausea (greater than 1% to less than or equal to 3%)
Upper stomach pain (in up to 2%)
Diarrhea (0.5% to 2%)
Constipation (greater than 0.5% to less than or equal to 2%)
Bloating
Gas (in up to 1%)

What other information should I know?
Directions for Advil state that adults and children 12 years old and over should take one tablet every 4 to 6 hours while symptoms persist. Two tablets can be taken together, if one is not effective, but you should not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours unless directed by a doctor.
Drug Interactions: Advil can interact with several other drugs, such as other NSAIDs, blood thinners, lithium, diuretics and steroids.
