Pantoprazole Side Effects

What is Pantoprazole used for?
Pantoprazole is in a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPI) which decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Pantoprazole is used to treat the symptoms of GERD, allow the esophagus to heal, and prevent further damage to the esophagus. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach. Other drugs in the same class include lansoprazole (Prevacid), omeprazole (Prilosec) and rabeprazole (Aciphex).

Before taking pantoprazole

To make sure you can safely take Clindamycin, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:
allergic to any other medications;
pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
heart disease;
diabetes;
epilepsy or seizures;
asthma;
liver disease.

Pantoprazole Side Effects:

Nervous system
Nervous system side effects have included headache, dizziness, somnolence,  and insomnia.

Gastrointestinal
Gastrointestinal side effects have included diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, constipation, abdominal pain, anorexia, and flatulence.

Musculoskeletal
Musculoskeletal side effects have included joint pain, musculoskeletal stiffness, leg cramps, myasthenia, muscle cramp.

Respiratory
Respiratory side effects have included cough, dyspnea, asthma (1% to 5%), chest congestion, difficulty breathing.

Dermatologic
Dermatologic side effects have included rash, hives, itching.

Other
Other side effects have included seizures, fever, difficulty swallowing, swelling of the mouth, hypertension, tinnitus, glaucoma.

What other information should I know?
There are less chances that one suffers from any side effects of this drug. People who are weak, having a feeble immunity system, or those that suffer from chronic diseases are the ones who suffer mostly from these side effects. If you experience any of the side effects mentioned above, it is advisable that you do not delay a visit to the medical practitioner. In some cases, another medical condition is mistaken as side effect of pantoprazole. To avoid this, proper diagnosis should be done, so that appropriate treatment can be availed. The dosage of pantoprazole should be taken as prescribed, to stay away from the possible side effects. Stay healthy and happy!
