Micardis Side Effects

Why is this medication prescribed?
Micardis is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is sometimes given together with other blood pressure medications.Micardis (telmisartan) is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.

Before taking Micardis
To make sure you can safely take Micardis, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:
allergic to telmisartan or to any of the ingredients of the medication;
pregnant;
breast-feeding;
kidney disease;
liver disease;
congestive heart failure;

Micardis side effects:

Gastrointestinal
Gastrointestinal side effects have included vomiting (in up to 1.7 percent), nausea, constipation, dry mouth, diarrhea (2%-5%), heartburn, abdominal pain.

Nervous system
Nervous system side effects have included tinnitus, earaches (greater than 0.1% to less than or equal to 1%), migraine (in up to 2 percent), lightheaded (1%-3%), insomnia, paresthesias.

Genitourinary
Genitourinary side effects have included difficult urination (greater than 0.1% to less than or equal to 1%), urinary frequency.

Musculoskeletal
Musculoskeletal side effects have included back pain (1%-3%), joint pain, leg pain (in up to 1.5 percent).

Respiratory
Respiratory side effects have included dyspnea, asthma, upper respiratory tract infection (such as colds or sinus infections).

Psychiatric
Psychiatric side effects have rarely included anxiety, depression, and nervousness.

Other
Other side effects have included fever, eczema or skin rash, vision changes, sweating.
