What is Dexamethasone used for?
Dexamethasone is used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including inflammation and arthritis, such as allergic disorders, skin conditions, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, or breathing disorders. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant which helps decrease inflammation by preventing the release of some chemicals involved with the body’s immune responses.

Before using Dexamethasone

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, especially if you are in the last few months of your pregnancy, you plan to become pregnant.
Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure or heart disease.
Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease or liver disease.

Using this medicine with any of the following medicines is not recommended:

Bosutinib
Darunavir
Dasatinib
Praziquantel
Artemether
Lurasidone
Nevirapine
Nilotinib
Nimodipine
Fosamprenavir
Imatinib
Ixabepilone
Lapatinib

Dexamethasone side effects:

Headache
Dizziness
Weakness
Insomnia
Anxiety
Fever
Chest pain
Nervousness
Heartburn
Nausea
Vomiting
Abdominal distention
Weight gain
Weight loss
Joint pain
Rash
Menstrual irregularities
Loss of peripheral vision
Hallucinations

Dexamethasone Side effects in children
In addition to the common and serious side effects that can develop both in adults and in children, Dexamethasone can slow growth and cause development of the pseudotumor cerebri in little patients.

What other information should I know?
You may never experience any of the side effects listed above. Your doctor cannot predict your body’s reaction to Dexamethasone until you have tried it. That is why you should immediately inform your doctor of any changes in your health condition after taking Dexamethasone. If you still have symptoms of eye irritation after you finish the dexamethasone, call your doctor.
