Actonel Side Effects

What is Actonel used for?
Actonel is a prescription medication used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and anyone who has corticosteroid-related osteoporosis. Actonel is also used to treat Paget's disease of bone. This medication is available in 5 mg, 30 mg, 35 mg, 75mg, or 150 mg tablets that are administered orally.

Before taking Actonel

To make sure you can safely take Actonel, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:
Low blood calcium
Kidney disease
Blood clotting disorders
An ulcer in your stomach or esophagus

Actonel side effects:

Headache (in up to 12%)
Dizziness (in up to 7%)
Tinnitus (in up to 3%)
Dizziness (in up to 3%)
High blood pressure (in up to 8%)
Diarrhea (0.5% to 2%)
Stomach pain (in up to 4%)
Joint pain (in up to 3%)
Back pain (in up to 2%)
Asthenia (in up to 5%)
Nausea (greater than 1% to less than or equal to 3%)
Urinary tract infections (greater than 0.5% to less than or equal to 2%)


What other information should I know?
Avoid taking any other medicines including vitamins, calcium, or antacids for at least 30 minutes after taking a Actonel tablet. Some medicines can make it harder for your body to absorb Actonel. If a user begins to experience serious side effects or an allergic reaction while taking Actonel, he or she should immediately contact a doctor. A doctor is likely to advise a patient to discontinue the medication, as well as treat the negative effects.
