What is Fosamax ?
Fosamax is a drug that is commonly used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in men and women. Fosamax is also used to increase bone mass in men who have osteoporosis, and to treat Paget's disease of bone in men and women. Fosamax slows bone loss while increasing bone mass, which may prevent bone fractures.

Before taking Fosamax
To make sure you can safely take Fosamax, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:
you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, or you are breast-feeding.
trouble swallowing.
you have kidney disease.
you have an ulcer or other problem in your stomach or esophagus.
you have a vitamin D deficiency.
you have a dental problem.

Fosamax Side Effects
Bone, muscle, or joint pain ( in up to 7 percent of people )
Fever ( up to 11 percent )
Headache ( up to 13 percent )
Vomiting ( up to 8 percent )
Gas ( up to 2.5 percent )
Abdominal pain ( up to 5.8 percent )
Diarrhea ( up to 2.8 percent )
Chest pain ( up to 3 percent )
Stomach pain ( up to 1.2 percent )
Dizziness ( up to 3.2 percent )
Bloating ( up to 1.7 percent )
Nausea ( up to 1.5 percent )
Constipation ( up to 1.8 percent )
Swelling ( up to 1.3 percent )
Numbness ( up to 2.1 percent )
Eye pain ( less than 1 percent )

Warnings
If you need to have any dental work (especially surgery), tell the dentist ahead of time that you are using Fosamax. You may need to stop using the medicine for a short time.
Studies report that Fosamax can actually leave bones more susceptible to infection and disease.
