Creatine Side Effects

What is Creatine and What Does It Do?
Creatine is a naturally occurring substance involved in ATP energy production that is one of the main energy sources for muscles. Creatine occurs naturally in vertebrates, it helps to supply energy to all cells in the body. It is used to increase the amount of creatine phosphate you have in your muscle tissue. Creatine is most effective in high-intensity training. These include weight training and sports that require short bursts of effort, such as sprinting, football, and baseball.

When taken by mouth in high doses, creatine is POSSIBLY UNSAFE. There is some concern that it could harm the kidney, liver, or heart function. However, a connection between high doses and these negative effects has not been proven.

Many people who use creatine gain weight. This is because creatine causes the muscles to hold water, not because it actually builds muscle.

There is concern that creatine might cause irregular heartbeat in some people. But more information is needed to know if creatine can cause this problem.
