Concerta Side Effects

What is concerta and used for?
Concerta is a central nervous system stimulant. It is thought to work by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain. Concerta is used to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is prescribed for use in children 6 years, and adults up to the age of 65.

Who Should Not Take Concerta:
If you have any of these other conditions, please do not use Concerta.
Hypersensitive or allergic to methylphenidate
Overactive thyroid
With marked anxiety, tension, and agitation
Severe high blood pressure
Epilepsy or other seizure disorder
Glaucoma
Congenital heart defect

Concerta Side Effects
Headaches
Dry mouth
Nausea
Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
Dizziness
Weight loss
Irritability
Increased sweating
Vomiting
Loss of appetite
Cough
Irritated or sore throat
Sinus infection or irritation
Fever
Irritated or runny nose
Shakiness (tremor)
Ingestion or heartburn
Painful menstrual periods
Diarrhea
Nervousness including agitation, anxiety and irritability
Lower abdominal pain
Heart palpitations
Restlessness
Hallucinations
Panic states
Hyperreflexia
Symptoms of depression
Seizures or abnormal EEGs
High blood pressure
Rapid heart beat
Swelling of hands/feet/ankles
Delusions
Dehydration
Unexplained muscle pain

What You Need To Know:
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication, and do not use Concerta if you are breast-feeding a baby.
If you misuse or abuse of methylphenidate can result in serious (possibly fatal) heart and blood pressure problems.
Concerta may have subtle impacts on cognitive and intellectual processes.
