What is sinus infection?
Sinus infections, also called sinusitis, is an inflammation of the sinuses and nasal passages. It is inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, which may be due to infection, allergy, or autoimmune issues. Some sinus infections are due to fungus and mold in the sinuses. People with a sinus infection may also have a cough, sore throat, fever, bad breath, and nasal congestion with thick nasal secretions.

What Causes Sinus Infection?

Viruses
Colds are caused by a virus, Most sinus infections start with a cold. it can make nasal tissue swell, blocking the holes that normally drain sinuses.

Allergies
Because inflammation can block the nasal passages and prevent draining, allergies are often associated with sinus infections. You must avoid that trigger allergic reactions.

Polyps
These can block critical drainage pathways that leading to sinus infection.

Irritating Pollutants
Allergens and pollutants in the air can cause sinus infection.

Smoking
Cigarette can also irritate your nose and cause inflammation.

What are the Symptoms of Sinus Infection?
Fever
Headache
Cough
Thick, yellow, foul-smelling nasal discharge
Bad breath/bad taste
Decreased sense of smell
Nasal stuffiness

How Is Sinusitis Diagnosed?
Your doctor usually can diagnose acute sinusitis by noting your symptoms and examining your nose and face to diagnostic sinusitis. Or through nasal endoscopy, X-rays, allergy testing, CT scan of the sinuses, or blood work.
